NIALL Powell confirmed his growing potential by winning Ross Golf Club's Annual Barnfield Trophy stableford event.

The 19-year-old scored an impressive 39 points with a highly accomplished one under gross par round.

His card showed three birdies and resulted in his handicap being reduced for the second time this year to 1.8.

Powell is on course for a professional career in the game, with his dedicated approach reflecting well on him and the development programme he is taking part in.

He was pushed hard by 18 handicapper Roger Morgan, whose back nine holes included five pars.

However, his total points score of 38 could only see him finish runner-up to Powell.

It was much the same story for David Dockray, who also scored38 points and was within touching distance of the top spot until the closing few holes.

Those who finished with 37 points were Nigel Montague, Martin Print and the 2014 winner Stuart Jones, followed by Stephen Gregory with 36 points.

Murray Thomson and Derek Hancock were a point further back with 35.

A total of 48 members took part in the event.
