MEMBERS of Kington Golf Club braved the bad weather by taking part in a Captains Drive-in 9-Hole competition.

Chris Mills came out on top, claiming 32.5 points, a point ahead of Nigel Scott in second place.

Scott said that, despite the wet weather, the course was just about playable.

"Scoring was particularly difficult, but many members were keen to brave it," he said.

"We are very lucky at Kington with the terrain because it drains so well and, although many got drenched out on the course, everyone enjoyed a glass of wine and an excellent buffet to toast the new captains."

Driving into Kington Kevin Barnes, who has taken over from Marcel Veillet as men's captain, and Pip Frost, who is the new ladies captain, replacing Mary Hill.

Veillet and Hill rounded off their year in office by handing over a cheque for £11,240 to St Michaels' Hospice.

The senior captain this year is Andy Edey, while Ross Baker is the junior captain.
