SENIOR Burghill Valley Golf Club member John Freeman won a litre bottle of whisky after correctly guessing how far incoming captain Roger Cleves would drive during a recent event.

Cleves is awaiting a hospital appointment, so he is enable to play 18 holes at present.

However, he managed drive off at 169.5 yards, earning Freeman his prize.

The competition was followed by a stableford contest, which saw Mike Higgins come top in the Division One section.

Higgins carded 41 points, a point clear of Clive Harris, who finished second.

Third place went to Norman Goodman, who pipped Gordon Perkins after a count-back after both scored 39 points.

Bill Toman also clocked 39, earning him top spot in Division, ahead of Paul Baker and Mike Buffey, who were second and third respectively.

Both Baker and Buffey carded 37 points, but Baker was deemed the runner-up after count-back was taken into consideration.

Fourth place went to Tim Fox, who finished on 35.
