FOUR junior players at Leominster Golf Club are currently earning wide acclaim for their performances.

As well as numerous junior successes this year, Taylor Merrick has achieved four best cards in a men’s running stableford, finished second in the Dave Barnes Trophy and been placed in the club night competitions.

Jackson Merrick, meanwhile, was third in the Club Championship with rounds of 75 and 78 and has had several placings on club night while Will Mee has seen his handicap cut from 28 to 19 after third place in the Ravenhill Cup with net rounds of 71 and 69.

He also achieved a second place finish in the high-scoring Captain’s Cup and several placings, including a first on club night.

Callum Gullis, meanwhile, was cut three shots when he won the bogey-format Bossom Bowl with a score of eight-up.

He has also been a member of a winning team in an Open Texas scramble.

Meanwhile a total of 56 players took part in the latest club night.

The winners were Andy Merrick (23pts) in Division One, Tony Wathen (21 points) in Division Two and Tony Dallow (25 points) in Division Three.

And in the July Medal and OMWGC qualifier, the winners were Ian Taylor on 67 (74-7) in Division One, Kevin Room on 64 (79-15) in Division Two and Adrian Morris on 68

Elsewhere at the club, it was a bitter-sweet victory for captain Chris Dixon in winning Leominster Golf Club’s Captain’s Vase, defeating some of the club’s past skippers with 44 stableford points.

He was cut two shots for the win followed by two more for exceptional scoring, so now finds himself playing off 15 instead of 19.

Last year’s captain, Bob Holloway, finished second with 39 points and 1976 captain John Ashcroft was third with 38 on countback.

In the latest Open Texas Scramble, first, second and fourth place went to Leominster GC teams captained respectively by Chris Chadd (51.6), Simon Morgan (54.4) and Doug Hill (55.4). The latter two teams also scored double twos along with three other Leominster GC teams and a Forest Hills team.

The most successful visiting team was Adrian Gracey (Stratford Oaks), Robert Buckland (Warwick), Matt Wren (Hollywood) and Charles Tustain (Copt Heath) who took third place (55.3) and a double twos prize. In addition, Matt Wren won the longest drive for under 50s and Adrian Gracey for 50 and over.

Nearest pin prizes were taken by Ben Edwards, Alan Dennison, Ryan Painter, Alan Cheeseman and Dan Rocke.
