ROSS Golf Club's annual men's Christmas fayre stableford attracted 93 members with the covering of early morning winter frost determining that the competition was played on temporary greens.

This did not deter 20-handicapper Adrian Berry whose 23 points score on his front nine holes including four pars provided the ideal start for him to capture a further five pars and a birdie on his inward nine holes.

His outrageous 48 points total was always likely to earn him top spot, and so it proved.

Eleven-handicapper Mick Merrick's highly creditable 45 points score, which was represented by four pars and two birdies on the front nine holes, was only exceeded when he played the back nine in gross level par.

Normally this would have won the day by miles but on this occasion, Merrick had to settle for the runners-up spot.

Result: 1 Adrian Berry 48 pts, 2= Mick Merrick, Tony Dallow 45, 4 Steve Price 44, 5 Adrian Hope 43, 6 Joe Irvine 42, 7= Nigel Evans, Graham Weare, Nigel Gibbs 41.
