BURGHILL Valley won the Shropshire and Herefordshire Handicap league for the first time in the club's history after beating a team from Llanymynech 3 1/2 to 2 1/2 in a closely fought final at Ludlow GC.
It was a case of third-time lucky for Burghill, after twice being beaten finalists by the smallest possible margin of one hole.
After qualifying unbeaten through the group stages, they beat Telford 9-3 over two legs in the quarter final.
Then, after losing the first leg of the semi-final 5-1 to Lilleshall Hall they stormed back to win the home leg 5 1/2 - 1/2 and reach the final.
In the final, all games were closely contested but Burghill triumphed for the first time with some superb golf.
