FOR the first time at Ross GC, the same player has won the club's Annual Layton Cup and the Eclectic Cup.

The Layton Cup is won based upon the total stableford points scored over a member's best three rounds and the Eclectic Cup is linked to a nett medal basis over all six rounds.

David Dale's 43 points in the sixth round saw him capture top spot from Barry Le Feuvre whose 42 points score made him at one stage the player most likely. Dale's 123 total points haul put him just ahead of Barry leaving Allen Mawby, 119, in third.

In the Eclectic Cup, Dale's nett 48 took the prize from newcomer Andrew Baldwin, 52, and Steve Martin and Peter Reynolds, 53.

Ross A won the Third Division of the North Gloucestershire Golf Union's annual foursomes league after a 3-3 draw in the season's final match at Tewkesbury Park GC.

The Ross team have gained four successive victories in the North Glos Union's Foursomes President's Cup and will travel with confidence in October to the final semi-final and final at Minchinhampton GC.

In their latest success, a 3-2 away win at Knowle GC, the Ross points were scored by Joe Irvine/Warren Moore 1 up, Neil Lancett/Dave Griffiths 3/2 and James Berry/Dale Gribble 2 up.

James and Gwynne Morgan and Niall Powell/Hugh Elliott also took part while Mark Whitmore, Chris Merriman, Matthew Hillier and Simon Davies have also played.

The Seniors Scratch team reached the quarter-final stage of the NGU's Annual County Salver for over 55s, where they were beaten by the competition favourites at Minchinhampton.

The 3-0 defeat featured Doug Duncanson/Robin Darling, Gwynne Morgan/Dave Hart and Colin Bennion/Steve Hughes.
