AUGUST proved a memorable month for 15-year-old Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School pupil Alec Tate who brought home three trophies in as many weeks.

The four-handicapper won the Junior Open at his club, Burghill Valley, when he shot a gross score of 78 over 18 holes.

A week later, he won the Snelling Scratch Salver at Shifnal Golf Club Junior Open, in Shropshire, shooting the best gross score of 151 over 36 holes.

Returning to Burghill Valley, a few days later, he became the club Junior Champion, winning both gross and net prizes by shooting level par, a gross score of 71 (nett 67).

He also found time to compete at the prestigious St Andrew's Junior Open, where he performed well against 150 international players, coming 40th in his final match.

His final Junior Open of the summer will be played at St Pierre Golf Club where he has competed for the past two years.

He will also compete for the title of Under-16 Midland Golf Union Champion of Champions in Nottingham, and the Shropshire and Herefordshire Match play Finals at Bridgnorth.
