BURGHILL Valley Golf Club senior Wilf Jones, who is 72, has just achieved his first (and he hopes not his last) hole-in-one.

Jones joined Burghill in 1990 when it opened and has played regularly since.

Playing in the Seniors’ Open competition, he was successful on the 150-yard par-three 12th hole.

“We were all delighted for a popular member who has been a club stalwart for many years to achieve what all golfers dream of,” said club manager Nick Hitchings

“I have been playing golf since 1982 and this is my first ever hole-in-one," said Jones. "It was a wonderful feeling to hit a shot so well and watch the ball head for the hole.

"I guess it goes to show that you are never too old and everyone should keep trying because you never know.”

Two other county golfers have also achieved aces this week to win a limited-edition BOSS watch as recognition for the achievement.

Martin Shaxted, 66, scored his ace on the 170-yard, par-three seventh at Herefordshire GC.

And six-handicapper Kelvin Alexander, 48, scored his ace on the 150-yard, par-three fifth at Kington GC.

Meanwhile, at Leominster GC, in the Seniors' Singles Knockout, Alan Roberts (18) scored a hole in one on the sixth.
