NEW Leominster captain Bob Holloway picked the perfect day for his drive-in, which was a lot better than his 116 yard drive.

Vince Fish anticipated a tightening of the grip and pressure of the occasion and won the sweep with a guess of 119 yards. Ninety eight members competed.

The winner was Tom Morris (14) with 41 points displacing his Dad well down the list.

Second was Kevin Tandler (5) 40 points, third Jackson Merrick (9) 37 points, fourth Paul Lane (20) 36 points, fifth was last year’s captain, Clive Malcolm (13) 35 points cb and sixth was Dad, Nigel Morris (6) 35 points. Nearest the pin 2nd shot on the 18th was Rob Harfoot (16).

Twos were scored by Martin Pugh (13), Roger Richards (5), Dave O’Dowd (13), Tom Tandler (24), Ian Gullis (7), Brian Hunt (16), Adrian Morris (26) and Tom Morris (14).

The competition was a qualifier.

Ross members enjoyed the novelty of a 'Night Golf' competition playes as a Texas Scramble team format over floodlit holes 1,2,3 and 16 with a putting competition to finish.

The winning team was James Berry, Tim and Matt Kefalas and Paul Finch.

The putting competition was won in a 'putt-off' by Graham Stonadge from club champion James Morgan.

On St David's Day there was an England v Wales Trophy between Ross and hosts Rolls of Monmouth with the home side winning 3.5-2.5.

Ross points came from Steve Wallbank and Danny Gear who won 6/5 with halved matches involving Dave Hart and Steve Phillips, James Morgan and Geoff Thomas and Kevin D'Lonra and Colin Bennion.

The second leg takes place at Ross later in the season.
