THE weather came especially good just in time for their final winter event in the Ross Seniors calendar, with 66 members taking part in a drawn team yellow ball competition.

Ross Seniors captain, Richard Escolme leding his team, which included Alan Thompson and Ken Vowles to an impressive victory with 127 stableford points.

Vowles, in contributing 50 of them, showed how effective he can be off a 24 handicap.

Seniors vice-captain Richard Topping, along with Barry Le Feuvre and Jim Riley, finished runners-up with 124 points, with third-place prize-winners being Martin Johnson, Phillip Bull and David Peacock only just off the pace with 122 points.

There was a turn-out of 84 Seniors and their wives at the Seniors Annual Dinner when Richard Escolme welcomed main guest, club president Di Honey who proposed the toast to Ross Golf Club in her final formal duty before she steps down in two weeks' time following the Club's AGM, having served three years in her ambassadorial role.

Ross lady captain Nesta Hirst , club captain Phil Wilson and lady vice-captain Rosemary Williams were also among the guests.

Master of ceremonies Keith Ray paid tribute to the tireless work undertaken by Patrick Curtis, now a non-golfer but who continues to play a key role administratively in ensuring that all men members at the Gorsley based club are able to sign-up and take part with impunity in a whole range of golfing competitions and events throughout the year.

Leominster GC, Combined Pairs Stableford: 1 Richard Beaumont (4) and Jason Culwick (21) 73 pts, 2 Kevin Gibbons (5) and David Stephens (10) 72, 3 Andy Merrick (5) and Taylor Merrick (11) 68.

Twos were scored by: Richard Francis, Craig Brimmell, George Beattie, Dan White and Richard Beaumont.
