THERE was plenty of colour as Denise Laird captained the American team to Rossheim Cup success in South Herefordshire.

Laird’s team, dressed in red, white and blue, sealed the trophy after a hard-fought battle in the women’s section at Ross Golf Club.

The Ross women’s section had been split into two camps and Laird led her side to a 14½-10½ win over a European team skippered by Linda Gaiderman.

The teams battled it out in singles, four-ball better ball and foursomes formats.

Press officer Wendy Harris said: “The two teams took their duties very seriously arriving suitably attired in all things blue and starred or all things red and rather brash.”

Lady captain Jeanette Forrester supported the teams from a buggy. Delighted captain Laird thanked her team-mates as she accepted the cup to warm applause.
