GOLFING aces Kerry Welding and Jan Armstrong triumphed in the Lady Captain’s Day at Ross - one of the highlights in the club’s calendar. The duo starred in the sunshine and carded an unassailable score of 49 points. Joan Malim and Maureen Turner also played well and achieved the runner-up spot with 43 points. Martha Norton and Christine Downs carded 42 points to achieve third place. Meanwhile, Dale Gribble enjoyed one of his most effective rounds to win the annual Winston Wildsmith Salver, which attracted a 133-strong field.

Gribble achieved two birdies and seven pars and was the clear winner after shooting 41 stableford points.

Andrew Moore was the runner-up on a count-back from David Higden, who also returned 39 points.

Robin Henderson-Pugh’s name will also appearing on the honours board after taking first place in the annual seniors’ Keene Cup.

Henderson-Pugh carded 43 stableford points, of which 11 points were scored on the finishing four holes.

Former Ross seniors’ captain John Hebdon had to settle for the runner-up place after also achieving 43 points.

Henderson-Pugh had the edge on a count-back, while newcomer Peter Chisholm, with 42 points, was third.

Other results: Terry Jarrett’s club team secured a 6-0 friendly win over Herefordshire Golf Club but they lost 5-1 at the Bell’s Golf Club in Coleford.

The seniors recorded a comprehensive win at home to their Herefordshire Golf Club counterparts but lost 6-2 at Cirencester Golf Club.

l RYAN Hotchkiss has won the 36-hole Kington Open after shooting a nett 74-66-140. Ricky Dyer carded 67-71-138 to take second place and Adrian Taylor, with 72-68-140, finished third.
