BURGHILL Valley’s Greg Morgan twice beat the course record when he collected the Herefordshire Men’s County Championship at South Herefordshire GC.

In the 36-hole competition, Morgan broke the course record to lead the tournament with a gross 71 in his morning round, followed by John Devereux and Jamie Roach who both shot 74.

But Morgan improved on his figure in the afternoon by firing a gross 70 to win by six shots from Devereux, with Roach two shots further back in third.

Home player Riccino Paccagnini won the competition for the best nett 36 holes with 70+71=141.

And the Burghill Valley trio of Morgan, Ed Morley and Guy Haines shot a total gross of 451 to take the team prize.

Herefordshire lost 4 and 2 in both the home and away matches against Ludlow and were also beaten 4½-1½ at home to Ross-on-Wye.

Fifteen-year-old Max Coleman has become one of the youngest winners of Ross GC’s men’s Traders Cup, firing a gross 84, nett 64 round to take top spot.

Results: 1 Max Coleman 64 nett, =2 Tom Moore and Nigel Montague 67, =4 Andrew Moore, Dave Letman 68.

Ross men’s friendly team beat Herefordshire GC 5.5-0.5 and halved with Enville GC.

Ross seniors lost 4.5-3.5 to Worcester Golf and Country Club and 6-2 to Monmouth GC before recovering their form with a 6.5-1.5 success against Radyr GC seniors.

q The Belmont GC duo of professional Richard Hemming and Wayne Gwynne are preparing for the next stage in qualifying for the Lombard Trophy.

The pair will contest the regional final at Little Aston GC on July 24 in a bid to secure a place at the final at Gleneagles on September 3-4.
