WESTFIELDS are now all but safe in the Midland Football League Premier Division after they gained a point in a six-goal thriller against Heanor Town.

Sean Edwards' side 15 points above the relegation zone with eight games to play and travel to third-from-bottom Bardon Hill this Saturday.

A trip to Coventry Sphinx – who just sit above the bottom three – then follows two days later.

Heanor went into the game looking to avenge a defeat against Westfields earlier in the season and they wasted little time in taking the lead when Nathan Bengar chipped the ball over goalkeeper Matt Gwynne after only 10 seconds.

However, Westfields were level after eight minutes when James Baldwin broke free to unleash a fantastic drive.

And the home side were ahead in the 12th minute.

Heanor failed to clear a Ben Miller cross and Phil Glover was on hand to stab the ball home.

But in a remarkable first half, Heanor made it 2-2 when Mike Harris converted a left-wing cross.

The second half was equally as dramatic and saw both sides reduced to 10 men when Westfields' Kane Kahaki and Heanor's Karl Demidh were involved in a "tangle".

Westfields went back in front when man-of-the-match Baldwin lashed the ball home from 12 yards before Harris scored his second goal of the game to make the scoreline 3-3.

The home side had chances to win the game, but Scott Jackson and Jamie Cuss both fired wide with only the goalkeeper to beat and Sam Gwynne saw and attempted lob saved.
