WESTFIELDS ran riot in the Midland Football League Premier Division on Saturday - thrashing bottom club Continental Star 7-0 away from home.

Sean Edwards' side were 5-0 up by half-time and will now go into a tricky game at Highgate United tomorrow night in confident mood.

Right from the first whistle, Westfields surged forward and both Ben Miller and Jamie Cuss had chances to score before Craig Jones stepped forward to slot home a penalty after 10 minutes.

Further opportunities came, with Cuss missing an excellent chance before hitting the crossbar.

But Westfields' leading scorer did get on the scoresheet when he latched on to a free kick from Miller.

Cuss then made it 3-0 when he was on hand to tap home after Jones' shot was parried by the home goalkeeper.

Tom Bendall, who replaced the injured Aidan Thomas, then got in on the act by rifling home a powerful shot before Jones made it 5-0 after Miller's shot came back off a post.

Continental Star came out in the second half determined to avoid further embarrassment by putting nine men at the back.

The pattern of the game followed a similar format, but it paid off as Fields were not able to penetrate their goal for some while.

However, the away side did make it 6-0 when Cuss completed his hat-trick to take his tally to 26 for the season.

Phil Glover completed the rout in the last minute when he converted a free-kick.
