WESTFIELDS manager Sean Edwards says it's refreshing that Jamie Molyneux decided to come back to allpay.park rather than play at a higher level.

The former Redditch United player returned to Westfields last week after being released by Hereford.

Molyneux was a key figure in Westfields' storming start last season and caught the eye of Bulls boss Pete Beadle.

But after forcing his way into the Hereford line-up, Molyneux found his opportunities limited this season and he has found himself back at Westfields.

"I kept in touch with Jamie for a long time and it was the right move for him to go to Hereford," said Edwards.

"But I said that if ever it didn't work out for him there, he's more than welcome back at Westfields.

"He enjoyed his time at Hereford, but as soon as he was released, every man and his dog were on the phone to him.

"But he wanted to come back to Westfields, which is fantastic for us.

"It is really refreshing and shows what an honest guy he is."

Beadle said he was surprised to hear he had rejoined Westfields.

"I was a little bit surprised that he didn't go to a higher-graded team and Westfields know they have got a good player," said Beadle.

"At Westfields, I think he played wide of a three, whereas here he was playing out wide

"Jamie did great for us, but we brought Adam [Page] in and Keyon [Reffell] and Garyn [Preen] have been playing well.

"It didn't quite work out and at 22, Jamie needs to be playing."

Westfields have also signed striker Mark Magee from North Leigh.

"We started chasing him two or three weeks into the season," explained Edwards.

"He offers us that link upfront, which he haven't had for a while."

Both new signings started for Westfields in their 4-2 defeat at Sporting Khalsa last Saturday.

Westfields found themselves 3-0 down by half time before Khalsa added another goal after the break after capitalising on miscommunication between goalkeeper Keiron Blackburn and Matt Reeve,

Edwards' team did pull two goals back through Ben Miller and Alex Hainault, but the damage had already been done.

"For the first 20 minutes we played really well, but we conceded three sloppy goals," added Edwards.

"We were missing Phil Glover and Matt Sysum, but had Matt Reeve, James Febery and Kane Kahaki, who are more than capable of keeping a clean sheet.

"It wasn't good enough."

Westfields now have two tough away games this week, starting with AFC Wulfrunians on Saturday.

High-fliers Bromsgrove Sporting then awaits next Tuesday.

  • Bradley Williams has also bee released by Hereford.

The midfielder missed pre-season after being involved in a car accident and Beadle explained more bleeding has since been found on his brain.

"It's quite depressing to hear that it wasn't picked up by the hospital," said Beadle.

"Brad is a great lad and mingles with the players well, but we've got McGrath, Dinsley, Purdie, Harry [Franklin] and Keyon [Reffell] who can all play in his position."
