ALEX Hainault says he knew all about the romance of the FA Cup growing up in Canada and now he wants to add another chapter to Westfields' remarkable story this weekend.

Prior to last season, Westfields had never made the third qualifying round, but this Saturday they have a chance to doing it in successive years.

Sean Edwards' side – who have only lost once in their last 13 games in the competition – face National League North outfit Leamington.

Hainault, who scored the winning goal in a 1-0 first qualifying round replay win over Soham Town Rangers, missed out on last season's remarkable journey after joining the club in January.

But he is now a first team regular and says Westfields will go into Saturday's tie in confident mood.

"I knew all about the FA Cup after coming to the team and with all the publicity they got, I always made sure that I knew about it," said Hainault, who added that he closed his eyes when he converted Craig Jones' free-kick to send Westfields through to the next round.

"I have followed the competition since I was a kid.

"At home back in Canada, the main competition is the Premier League and the FA Cup.

"English football is definitely growing there and there is more on TV now for the kids to watch.

"I signed before January, but with the holidays, I only came afterwards and missed the FA Cup.

"There's still a long to go if we want to repeat what we did last year and in the FA Cup, you're going to play better teams, especially because of the league we're in.

"There's no easy game in the FA Cup, everyone knows the history of it and wants to play the best they can.

"I think both teams will be up for it and it's a chance to get closer to the first round proper.

"But we will take it one game at a time and do what we can to prepare right for that game.

"And if everything goes right, we can think about the next round."

Hainault is currently studying a masters degree at Hartpury College and came over to the UK after playing football in Sweden.

"I did a couple of trials in England from Sweden and was able to get a Visa from my grandmother," he explained.

"I had a trial at Newport and then got in touch with a coach at Hartpury and have been doing my masters ever since.

"I got here through Sirdic Grant and have been trying to recruit the talented guys over here."

Edwards believes Hainault has improved massively with the more games he has played.

"He's up up the level we're at now in terms of his physical strength in this league," said Edwards.

"He's a great lad and is a bit fun, but he works so hard in training."
