A SOLITARY penalty was enough for Alvechurch to knock Westfields out of the Polymac Packaging Midland Football League Cup.

Ryan Edmunds tucked away the penalty a minute after the break after Westfields goalkeeper Matt Gwynne was adjudged to have brought down a player.

Westfields had a great chance to equalise, but Phil Glover headed wide from a Chris Ham corner and then Ben Miller and subsitute Julio Da Mata both had shots cleared off the line.

Alvechurch, who were captained by former Hereford FC defender Jamie Willets, stood firm and held Westfields at bay.

The home side were later awarded another penalty, but the spot- kick was sent wide.

Alvechurch will now face Lye Town in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Josh Hunt netted a hat-trick as Wellington thrashed Pegasus Juniors 5-1 in the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division Cup.

Adam Newbury and Adam Price scored Wellington's other goals, while Jamie Cuss grabbed Pegasus' consolation.

Wellington will go to Smethwick in the quarter-finals.
