JAMIE Molyneux has left Westfields to join fellow Midland League Premier Division outfit Highgate United.

And the former Hereford FC player will be facing his ex-club on two occasions during the next week, with back-to-back matches taking place.

Westfields joint manager Sean Edwards said Highgate are based close to where Molyneux lives and are going for promotion.

"Unless we win our last 19 games, it's unrealistic that we will get either of the top two places.

"So we've spoken to Jamie, whose got friends at Highgate and they are pushing to go up.

"He is a great lad and we parted on good terms.

"We wish him well, but obviously not for Saturday and Tuesday."

Edwards added that it is always difficult having to play the same club in quick succession.

"I'm not a lover of it because if there is any ill feeling after Saturday, it can carry on into Tuesday," said Edwards.

"I don't think it's healthy for our league, but it is what it is and we've got to get on with it."

Meanwhile, Edwards has confirmed that central midfielder Anthony Robbins will be retiring from football.

The former Hereford player returned to Westfields this season following a stint as player-manager at Pegasus Juniors.

But injuries have again curtailed him, which has restricted his game time.

"He has suffered from back problems and it's got to the point that it has worn him down and he sees no light," said Edwards.

"He had a back injury many years ago when we finished runners-up in the league and he's never really recovered from that, which has restricted his game time.

"We brought him back because there would be certain games where we could use his knowledge and experience.

"If he get himself fit, then he could become available for us, but at the moment he just needs to look after himself and put his health first."

Last Saturday, Westfields came from behind to beat Shawbury United 3-2, with Brad Williams making his debut.

Williams has come on board from Hereford Lads Club and Edwards says he has always kept an eye on him.

"He was at Hereford at the start of the season, but didn't have a pre-season because of the injury he had after a car accident, so we left it at the time because we had Matt Reeve and Robbins," said Edwards.

"But Reeve got injured against Worcester and is out for the rest of the season, so Brad has come in and did really well on Saturday."

Following the game, Shawbury manager Dave Richards accused Westfields of being 'over-physical' and felt the referee should have protected his young players.

"One of their guys made a two-footed challenge on Matt Sysum, but we weren't crowing about it," said Edwards.

"It was a feisty game because it was a local derby and was a physical game with some challenges being made, but the pitch made it a battle.

"The ref booked four of my players in the opening five minutes, so was obviously stamping his authority on the game."

Mark Magee opened the scoring for Westfields in the 18th minute before Shawbury hit back after the break thanks to two Sean Evans strikes.

Westfields levelled through Craig Jones before Keanu Cooper diverted Sam Mendes' cross into his own goal with eight minutes left to give Westfields the win.
