HEAD coach Andy Bevan said it was vital that Westfields picked up all three points against Long Eaton United with big games coming up.

A strong second half performance saw Westfields win 4-0, their third straight victory in the Midland Football League Premier Division.

"We had a big result last Wednesday against Lye but if we hadn't have won on Saturday, then it would have been irrelevant," said Beavan.

"It now puts us in a nice position ahead of this Wednesday when we play Bromsgrove Sporting."

The win leaves Westfields in 12th position, but with plenty of games in hand on the sides above them, Beavan is confident his side can put a good run together.

"The players are getting stronger and, whereas this time last year we were absolutely flying, there was always the question of what happens next if we get knocked out of the FA cup or lose a few games," said Bevan.

"This season, we are getting stronger and we are in a nice position."

Bevan said that the wind affected both teams in the first half last Saturday, but once it subsided, Westfields were able to play some good football.

"They had one clear-cut chance in the second half, but apart from that, they didn't create much," added Bevan.

In the first half, Westfields had a number of early chances, while at the other end, Keiron Blackburn twice kept out dangerous crosses.

After the interval, Westfields took the lead when Matt Sysum bundled the ball over the line, while Mark Magee was on hand to tap the ball home after the Long Eaton keeper did well to save a Richard Greaves header.

Westfields steeped up the momentum and Phil Glover joined the attack from a corner to make it 3-0 before Hayes sealed the win by firing home from 12 yards.
