NEW Westfields signing Stuart Davies has vowed to bounce back after breaking his leg during a pre-season match.

The midfielder had just signed for the club from Hay St Mary's when he sustained the injury during the Dennis Hartland Memorial Trophy encounter against Pegasus Juniors.

Davies, who was the club captain at Hay, is now set to be out until at least Christmas.

"I don't remember much about the challenge, just that I went over my ankle and their lad came on top of me," said Davies.

"At the time, I knew something was wrong but I didn't know what.

"I wanted to carry on but as I hobbled off, I knew I couldn't.

"I knew something was wrong the next morning when I couldn't put any weight on it and it was swollen beneath the ankle.

"But I didn't even contemplate that it was a break until I went to A&E.

"It's gutting, particularly after signing for a new club and I'm already a little fed up not being able to do anything.

"But there's not much I can do about it."

The 30-year-old, who had been on Westfields manager Sean Edwards' radar for the past two seasons, said he was delighted to sign.

"I got my first game against Longlevens and Sean said to keep working hard and after the game he would sign me," said Davies.

"I was over the moon to sign because I think it's a step up, especially with the chance of playing in the FA Cup."

Edwards said he feels for Davies.

"I'm really disappointed for him because he had worked hard in pre-season to get into a position for me to sign him," said Edwards.

"I have watched him numerous times and he has always led by example.

"He never moaned or got booked, so I gave him the opportunity to do some pre-season work with us because he said it would be a challenge for him.

"Before the game, he never really got injured apart from a few aches and pains.

"It was just a freak accident what happened and it is horrible for the lad.

"We are talking at least three months that he will be out for, so I don't expect he will be until Christmas time, which is a blow."
