MATT Gwynne admits it will be surreal when he puts on a different pair of gloves this Saturday.

The Westfields goalkeeper will be taking part in a charity boxing show at Perdiswell Leisure Centre in Worcester.

Lee Ferneyhough – who has played for Westfields, Pegasus Juniors and Kington Town – will also be entering the ring, as well as former junior player Ashley Jones and ex-Hinton player Kiegan Vallely, who is now a hypnotist.

And they have already been matched with opponents following the weigh-ins that took place last Friday.

“I will be out of my comfort zone, a bit like when I went up front last year for Westfields,” said Gwynne.

“It’s a bit different to what I’m usually used to, but I’m looking forward to it.

The foursome are raising money for Cancer Research, while Ferneyhough is also supporting the Special Care Baby Unit at Hereford County Hospital due to his four-year-old daughter Chloe being born prematurely.

“I knew boxing would be something that would get me out of my comfort zone and it would also raise awareness for the charities,” said Ferneyhough, who will also be cycling from London to Paris on April 21.

“Chloe was in hospital for the first five weeks of her life and they did a fantastic job there.

“We started an eight-week programme at Worcester with two sessions a week, but it’s been a lot more difficult than I thought it would be.

“It’s a bit like chess where you’re thinking a lot, but we’re all looking forward to the night.

“We’ve got a lot of friends and family who are coming to support us and we’ve got six tables.

“The first fight will be at 5.30pm and it will last until 9.30pm.”
