NATHAN Summers says he is excited about the possibility of winning back-to-back Midland Football League Premier Division titles.

The former Hereford FC defender has signed for Westfields after turning down a move to play in the Southern League Premier Division with Cirencester Town.

Westfields are still in with a great chance of winning the division, although they are playing catch-up on Alvechurch and Lye Town, who occupy the top two positions.

"I was at Frome but had a bit of a disjointed season," explained Summers.

"Cirencester put in seven days, but I spoke to Sean Edwards and I liked what he was saying.

"I'm familiar with Hereford and I've got three months of my business degree left at Hartpury, so it means there won't be that much travelling.

"You see a lot of movement among players, especially in these leagues, but I like that Westfields are playing for something, so it doesn't bother me that I'm dropping down some leagues.

"In football, having experience of winning something is important and it holds me in good stead.

"Winning the league with Hereford was brilliant and I think Westfields have got a great chance of winning it this year because they've got a good team down there."

Summers, who has linked up with former teammates Sirdic Grant, Dylan Bonella and Ben Miller, had two spells at Hereford and was a substitute for the Bulls for the FA Vase Final defeat against Morpeth at Wembley.

"I loved it there and I've got some good friends at the club," added Summers.

"I've got a lot of respect for Beads and I don't regret what happened there.

"Everyone wants to play games, but people come in and play well.

"I don't hold any grudges though and I have learnt from the experience."

Westfields manager Sean Edwards said he swooped for the centre-back as soon as he heard he was set to leave Frome in order to shore up his defence following a 5-1 drubbing at Shawbury United.

"I got home after the Shawbury game and went straight on the computer to see who was available," said Edwards.

"I saw that Nathan was probably going to sign for Cirencester, so i thought I'd chance it and put in the call.

"He's at Hartpury and knows some of the lads here, so it's great for him and great for us.

"We've got some good defenders, but we were lacking some experience and having a leader, especially when Kane Kahaki was out."

Westfields – who are also in talks with a striker – reignited their league campaign this week with two vital wins.

A 3-2 win against St Andrews on Saturday was followed by a 2-1 success at Brocton last night,

All five goals last Saturday was scored in the first half, with Sirdic Grant and Richard Greaves (2) the scorers.

However, Kahaki was sent off for the hosts.

Greaves also struck the winner on Tuesday after a Dave Ablewhite penalty had cancelled out a Chris Ham goal for Westfields.

Brocton also had a player sent off.

Meanwhile, Westfields' HFA County Challenge Cup semi-final fixture against Hereford Lads Club will be played on Wednesday, February 22.
