A RECORD league home attendance gathered to watch their teams lift the Evo-Stik Southern Premier trophy.

A crowd of 4,556 packed into Edgar Street to see their team run out 4-1 victors over Kettering Town and gathered on the pitch to watch the title celebrations in what was a record league attendance for the reformed Hereford FC.

“We would just love to play in front of that number every week at home of course we would, said Hereford FC manager Pete Beadle.

“This is a thriving city now with lots of development going on and this football club has become again the heartbeat of the city.

“It’s an important part of the city, it’s a meeting point and a focal point, while things are good right now of course we would like to see 3,500 or 4,000 fans and it’s intimidating for other teams who come here.

“It’s hard to put into words what they (the fans) do for you and they are our 12th man. They’re an inspiring with how far they travel, the distances they cover and the games they come to and how much they support the players.

“Basingstoke was a bit of a reality check after the game and there was a handful of supporters who were extremely disappointed with the game and they showed that.

“Nobody is going to hand anything to us and we do see the best of everybody every week so it just shows how well this team, staff and players over the past three years has played.
