JAMIE Molyneux believes he has made the right decision to return to Westfields, despite having offers to play in a higher league.

Molyneux has found his feet in recent games following his release from Hereford and netted twice to help Westfields beat Shifnal Town 6-0 in the first round of the FA Vase.

"I was a bit unfit for the first few games because I hadn't played at Hereford for a few weeks, but I'm back here with familiar surroundings and I'm enjoying it again," said Molyneux.

"I had a few offers from teams at Hereford's level, but for me, I just wanted to get back playing.

"I've done well here before so I thought I'd take a step back, help Westfields out and see where I go from here.

"Edo [manager Sean Edwards] was happy for me to go to Hereford and wouldn't stand in my way and I said if it wouldn't work out I'd come back and give him a hand and that's what I've done."

Molyneux added that left on good terms at Hereford and it was a great experience to play in front of so many fans.

"I had a good season last year but unfortunately this year, it didn't work out for me," he said.

"That's football though and it happens to a lot of players.

"I've got no bad feelings towards them at all, it's a great club but now I'm here and ready to do well."

Some supporters felt Molyneux could not produce his best form out wide and is better suited playing further up the field.

"I can play wide of a three, but at Hereford it was more 4-4-2 and the defensive side killed my game a bit," admitted Molyneux.

"But I did my best and I like to think I did alright."

Mark Magee opened the scoring for Westfields with a sixth minute penalty before Matt Sysum doubled the advantage before half time.

Westfields added four further goals after the break, with Richard Greaves also netting a brace.

"It's a good win just to get to the next round and puts us in the hat for November," said Westfields manager Sean Edwards,

"It's all about getting through the early rounds.

"That's two 6-0 wins for us now [in the Vase], which gives the lads a bit of confidence."

Westfields have been handed a tough draw in the next round though.

Edwards' team will travel to Devon to take on Western League Premier Division outfit Willand Rovers.

The tie will be played on Saturday, November 11.

Molyneux believes that there is no reason why Westfields can't enjoy a good run in the competition.

"Bromsgrove got to the semi-final last year and they were in the league below, so there's no reason why we can't go on a run with the lads we've got here," he said.

The FA Vase is the only cup competition Westfields are left in after they lost 2-1 to Stourport Swifts last week in the Polymac Packaging Midland League Cup.

"I've never wanted to go out of a cup before but last week I thought, 'realistically we want to put a performance but don't want to extend our season because we're still far behind as it is," admitted Edwards.
