HEREFORD FC manager Pete Beadle says Mike Symons was 'too nice' when he convinced the referee to not award the Bulls a second penalty in this afternoon's HFA County Challenge Cup Final against Lads Club.

Stephen Hughes pointed to the spot after Jordan Burke was deemed to have brought down Symons before then awarding a corner.

"The linesman gave the penalty and the referee went with him," explained Beadle.

"Mike Symons then said it wasn't a penalty and the fella got the ball.

"The referee then went to the linesman and that is the reason why we didn't get the penalty.

"Now full credit to Mike, but I did say to him afterwards 'how many other teams would have done that?'

"I think it's a fantastic thing to do and it shows what nice lads we've got playing for us, but it's a football match.

"If the ref says it's a penalty, it's a penalty.

"If it's not and you disagree with him, just take the penalty and put it in the net.

"John Mills got the first penalty and I had already told him that the first goal maybe wasn't his.

"In fact he was going to give Rory the second penalty and I said 'no, you take it just to be sure' and Mike stepped in.

"They wouldn't have done it if it was on the other foot, so we've got to be ruthless.

"But as it's three trophies for this season and we were 3-0 up, I'll let him off."

Beadle was also disappointed that some players were not available for the game, resulting in him only being able to pick three substitutes.

"I've never known a season like it," said Beadle.

"I'm a little bit disappointed with one or two players who have texted this morning.

"Its hard to criticise too much because they have done ever so well this year, but it did leave us short with one or two dropping out.

"And all we had were the ones who were available.

"I thought the young kids were excellent and gives us an opportunity to look at them for next season."

Beadle reserved praise for Lads Club and said Danny Moon's team were superb.

"Danny has got them organised and working hard for one another," said Beadle.

"They came to prove a point, as they should do, and I thought they matched us in the first half.

"In the second half, there may have been tired legs and we certainly dominated a bit more.

"But they've got nothing to be embarrassed about, I thought they were superb."
