HEREFORD FC manager Pete Beadle said he was infuriated with his side's second half performance which almost cost a win against a strong Evesham United outfit.

The Bulls won 2-1 to remain unbeaten in Southern League Division One South & West and are still 13 points clear at the top.

But Evesham provided a stern test and were unlucky not to come away with at least a point.

"I wasn't pleased with the performance in the second half, but you've got to give credit to Evesham because I thought they were fantastic and showed why they are up there," said Beadle.

"I thought they totally outplayed us deserved at least a point out of the game at the very least.

"We were a pushover in the second half and it won't happen again, not like that.

"I'm pleased we won, but infuriated with the second half performance because we sat back.

"We're so much better when we're on the front foot, but for some reason we didn't do that.

"There's still one or two players who need to add to their game, even people like Clayton Fortune and Mark Preece, who have played in the Football League.

"But we've dodged a bullet and will take three points."

Evesham's goal 20 minutes from time came after Lindon Dovey beat three players before unleashing a fine shot past Alex Harris in the Hereford goal.

"John [Mills] was the first one on the half-way line," explained Beadle.

"We know tackling isn't his strong point and we know why he's in the team.

"But sometimes you've got to put yourself in the firing line for the team.

"Whether he commits a foul on the halfway line, we can defend that.

"Then Macca dives in and Clayton and it's a lovely finish, but too easy.

"But from the very first minute in the second half, the lad brings it down on his chest 50 yards from goal, runs 10 yards and has a shot.

"There's warning signs straight away that he's managed to do that and it only got worse for us.

"In the end, I thought we were very fortunate to get the three points."
