HEREFORD captain Joel Edwards admits his place in the Bulls team is not guaranteed, especially after a new player has come on board.

Full-back Adam Davies, who can play on both flanks, has signed from Merthyr Town, meaning conceivably Hereford have four players who can play as left-back.

"No one is guaranteed a place and I think everyone knows that," said Edwards.

"It's good to have someone challenging for your place because it makes you up your game.

"Competition is always good and brings good depth to the squad if there's any injuries or tiredness, you can rotate it."

Edwards has only recently come back from injury, but says he now feels 100 per cent fit.

"My knee has been troubling me for a while," explained Edwards.

"Towards the end of last season it was pretty bad, but I was able to play through it.

"At the start of preseason it was ok, but it got worse.

"I tried to play on a bit, but it wasn't right.

"I spoke to the gaffer and he said for me to get myself 100% right, which is what I've done."

Beadle believes Davies brings a a lot of knowledge to the club.

"He has worked his way up the ranks and was Merthyr's player of the year last season," said Beadle.

"He's extremely versatile and we come to an interesting time of the year with Jimmy [Oates] being injured, Rob [Purdie] has played with a bit of a knock and Chris Barker has got a hamstring injury.

"We're covering our backs a little bit, but he's a very good player and defender."

The other new Hereford player who has come on board is central midfielder Calvin Dinsley, who has joined from Gloucester City.

Dinsley made his debut on Tuesday night in a 2-1 win over Paulton Rovers.

Hereford won the match thanks to a dramatic late winner from John Mills.

Beadle felt his side earned their luck.

"They've had the penalty, one shot on goal that trickled to Horsell and one they blasted over and in the whole game," said Beadle,.

"We created plenty of chances and in the end I thought we earned our luck in the end with our goal."

Hereford opened the scoring through Jake Sinclair in the 15th minute before Paulton equalised in the 32nd minute thanks to a Jordan Ricketts penalty.
