JAMIE Molyneux has admitted it was a tough decision to leave Westfields, but he had to go to Hereford in order to progress in his career.

The striker played a big part in Westfields reaching the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup and cementing their place at the top of the Midland Football League Premier Division.

But he decided to make the short trip to Edgar Street and made his debut for Hereford on Tuesday night when he came off the bench in the first half during a 2-1 win over Paulton Rovers.

"When you're winning games, playing football every week and scoring goals, it's hard to leave, but for what I want to do in the future, I think this is a good move for me," said Molyneux.

"We [Westfields] already made history getting through the last round [of the FA Cup]

"Obviously I'm disappointed not to be playing in the FA Cup, everyone wants to play in it, but I'm a Hereford player now."

Molyneux didn't expect to have so many minutes on Tuesday night, but was forced to come on due to an injury to Jake Sinclair.

"I felt fine and thought I did ok," added Molyneux.

"I got a bit stiff near the end because I haven't played in a week or so, but I enjoyed it."

Molyneux, who played for Redditch United against Hereford United at Edgar Street two years ago, knows he faces serious competition from the other strikers that Hereford possess.

"It's good for the players to have competition, it keeps people on their toes and to work hard.

"People come off injured and people come on and we still win."
