ATTACKER Jamie Cuss believes footballers from other local clubs in the county should aspire to play for Hereford FC.

The 30-year-old thought he would be overlooked by Hereford despite banter from his friends at former club Westfields.

However, Cuss received the call from the Bulls and has made a big impact since making the cross-city switch.

“I thought Hereford would be looking for players in higher leagues,” admitted Cuss.

“A few of the lads at Westfields said I had scored 31 goals in the league last season and I might get an opportunity at Hereford but I took it with a pinch of salt.

“But when the gaffer (Pete Beadle) contacted me about coming to Hereford it was an opportunity I couldn’t miss.

“There are opportunities for other players from local sides too and they have got to be wanting to play for Hereford. I just hope Hereford carry on and go through the leagues.”

Cuss played against Hereford last season when he was banging in the goals for Westfields.

The Hereford lad says his former club have been very supportive of his move to the higher-graded Bulls.

“I had played at Westfields for a long time but I spoke to Sean Edwards (Westfields manager) and Andy Morris (chief executive) who both said going to Hereford was an opportunity I couldn’t miss," said Cuss.

“They’ve been great at Westfields, wished me well and I have a good luck message every Saturday. It’s great that Westfields want you to go on and do well in your football.”

While Hereford have made a promising start to life in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West, Cuss isn’t getting too carried away.

“All the teams in this league are going to be good sides and they will be nippy with movement but we are a good side and we want to win as many games as we can.”
