FORMER Hereford FC player Will Haines will be heading to the USA next month to take up a prestigious football scholarship.

Haines, who lives in the city and made one substitute appearance for the Bulls last season, will join Northwood University in Midland, Michigan to study and play for the Timberwolves football team.

He will have an opportunity to combine his studies alongside playing high level football for the next four years.

The scholarship was gained through the assistance of PASS4Soccer Scholarships.

“I’ve chosen to go to the states because it’s the best place for me to progress with my football and it also gives me the opportunity to get a degree," said Haines.

"I'm looking forward to playing for Northwood University as the set up looks really good and they have ambitions of winning a National Championship."

Haines is at Hartpury College and his scholarship and placement is in recognition of his academic and athletic abilities, as well as an impressive performance in the PASS4Soccer US coach showcase held at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre last December.

Places in the PASS4Soccer Network Programme are now available for students seeking to unter a US university soccer programme in August 2017 and 2018.

Trails will be held in Gloucester, Nottingham, London, Birmingham and Newcastle.
