ROB Purdie expects Joel Edwards to lift the Midland Football League Premier Division trophy this week should Hereford FC be crowned champions.

The trophy will be at Edgar Street this Saturday for the Bulls' home match against Heanor Town.

Hereford will win the division with a victory, as long as Alvechurch lose against Bardon Hill.

Ian Long's side now go to Sporting Khalsa in a rearranged match Monday.

Midland Football League press officer Gary Hazlehurst has confirmed that the trophy will be at a ground where it can be won.

Therefore, if Hereford don't win the league this Saturday, it will travel to Coventry on Monday when the Bulls face Coventry Sphinx.

Edwards is currently nursing an injury, resulting in Purdie wearing the captain's armband.

But Purdie say he fully expects Edwards to get his hands on the trophy first should Hereford do the business in the next few days.

"I might sneak into the foreground a little bit and have a little finger on the trophy, but Joel has been our club captain this season," said Purdie.

"It's a little bit different to a one-off cup game where you can captain the side, but I expect Joel to lift the trophy.

"Joel has got an injury and Dylan [Bonella] has not been involved as much, so Beads gave me the armband.

"I enjoy it and I think the lads listen to me.

"I think we've got a good respect going between the whole of the group.

"I'm proud to captain Hereford, it;s the first time I've done it this season.

"Beads gave it to Joel and rightly so because it gave him a chance to step up, rather than give it to me or Greeny [Ryan Green] all the time.

"He's stepped up and done really well and I'm just happy to take over.

"As soon as he's back, he will get the armband back.

Purdie says all the pressure is on Alvechurch and they cannot afford to drop points against Sporting Khalsa, whom Hereford comfortably beat 3-0 on Tuesday night.

"It gives us a chance to see how they do under pressure because they can't slip up," said Purdie.

"But I think Saturday is a tough game, Heanor are have a half-decent away record and like to break on teams, so that will suit them at our place.

"We will just concentrate on getting three points against Heanor."

Hereford are on a phenomenal run and are still on course to win four trophies this season.

"Since we last lost, Beads has said he wants us to win every single game between then and the end of the season," added Purdie.

"I think that's 15 on the bounce now and it is just the next game.

"We had Alvechurch, we beat them, we carry on winning, we go to Khalsa, we beat them and straight after the game, it's a case of 'look, it's a big game on Saturday, go and win that'."

Hereford's immediate task though is to beat Stourport Swifts in the first leg of the Polymac Packagaing League Cup semi-final this evening.

The final against either Walsall Wood or Lye Town will be played at Solihull Moors' ground on Tuesday, May 10.
