MORPETH Town have confirmed a poster stating the FA Vase Final is "payback time" for Hereford United upsetting Newcastle United in 1972 was produced by a supporter and not the club.

The design urges supporters to support their north east side and "help them put the ghost of of Ronnie Radford to bed" when Morpeth face Hereford FC on May 22.

"One of our supporters did it – I heard about it, but haven't seen it," said Morpeth chairman Ken Beattie.

"I think it's just a light-hearted thing from one of our fans."

Beattie confirmed that Morpeth have so far sold around 2,500 tickets for the final and they are looking to sell up to 1,500 more.

"Coaches are leaving between 4.30am and 4.45am, while some of of supporters are staying over and having a weekend in London," added Beattie.

"We are a town with a population of 25,000, but a lot of people who live here support either Newcastle or Sunderland.

"Our average gate has increased to about 250 and we are looking at taking about 3,500 to 4,000 fans to Wembley, with a lot more group tickets being bought.

"I also spoke to one of Halifax's supporters last night and they are targetting about 10,000."

Representatives from Morpeth and Hereford were at Wembley today to discuss the logistics of the final with the Football Association.
