HEREFORD FC goalkeeper Martin Horsell says "it is never nice muscling another player out" after replacing ever-present Harvey Rivers.

Horsell, who joined Hereford from Yate Town, has played every game after hooking up with the Bulls at the beginning of last month.

Up until that point, Rivers had played every game for Hereford.

"I came here to battle out a position, it's never nice muscling another player out, but that's football," said Horsell.

"I hear he's gone on to play in the league above [for Swindon Supermarine], which is good experience for him.

"He's young, he's driven and is very good in training and I think he will do well.

"The gaffer [Pete Beadle] has spoken to me and said he's looking for a bit of experience and hopefully I've provided that.

"He has filled every position twice, even three-fold, and he definitely wanted cover as a goalkeeper."

Horsell says he is enjoying his time at Hereford.

"It's been a change from playing in the league above, but when you look at the fan base, the stadium and the quality of players we've got in the changing room, it's all highly professional and it's a nice environment to be around," he said.

Recently, Ryan Green and Nathan Summers have been the first-choice centre-back partnership meaning Jamie Willets, another ever-present player since joining Hereford, has missed out.

Hereford drew 1-1 against Alvechurch last Saturday in the Midland Football League Premier Division.

It was the first time the Bulls had not won a game in 27 matches.

"They definitely came with a game plan to sit back and make it difficult to break down, but I felt we had more chances – they only really had one shot," added Horsell.

"We could have taken our chances and won the game, but fair play to them, they put the work rate in and you could tell that they won the battle."
