ANTHONY Robbins says he has found being player-manager at Pegasus tough going at times.

The former Hereford FC midfielder took over at the Old School Lane club last September following the departure of James Edmonds.

But inconsistency has been Pegasus’ main problem this season and Robbins admits player unavailability has hit the team.

“I think if I went straight into management, it wouldn’t be so bad, but I’m struggling a little bit being player-manager,” said Robbins.

“I have to make decisions on the pitch while I’m playing, as well as looking after my own game.

"I don’t think you find too many successful player-managers and it has been hard work.

“But I’ve enjoyed it and being able to work with players on a one-to-one basis.

“I want to be playing every game and that is why I’ve got the experience of Chris Hyde.

“Having him on the bench with Dave Hart allows me to try and play my game.

“When I was at Hereford I didn’t play for three months because I had a bad ankle injury, so I’m still finding my way.”

Robbins has now been hit with the news that star striker Cory Hyde will be sidelined after sustaining a serious knee injury during a 2-2 at county rivals Wellington last Saturday.

Hyde – who earlier scored his 35th goal of the season – was stretchered off 15 minutes from the end and taken to hospital.

“It’s his third time with his knee, so it’s sad for him and fingers crossed it’s not as bad as first thought,” added Robbins.

“Something happened in the box and and the ball came out the other end.

"The ball then went out play and he was laid down.

“He said his foot got caught in the ground and his body went one way and his knee the other.

“Cory makes a massive difference to any side because the amount of goals he scores.

“You can have a good side and not have a goalscorer and you can go through games drawing or losing.

"So if we have lost him now it will be tough to fill his boots.

“He’s had two ACL operations, one on each knee, so that’s four years in his career where he hasn’t played football.

“So it’s been hard for him having to make that commitment and he has been unlucky because I think he could have easily have played at a higher level.”

One player who could come in is Sam Pearson, but he is currently nursing a thigh injury.

“Sam is with Evesham officially but came to us after being injured for a couple of games,” explained Robbins.

“On his first game back he had a reoccurance of it, so he went back to Evesham to get treatment and when he got better he came back.

"I think it was the second game and it went again in his thigh.

"He’s just having some rehabilitation and hopefully in a couple of weeks he will be back playing again.”

Robbins was disappointed that Pegasus could not hold onto their lead against Wellington after going 2-0 up at half-time.

“After being 2-0 up at half-time and then draw is a little bit disappointing, but I thought Wellington played quite well so maybe a draw was fair,” said Robbins.

“We have looked for consistency since I took over, which is hard because of the transition we’re in with players being unavailable.

“If I get that commitment, I think we will get more consistency and we’ll pick up more points.”
