WESTFIELDS still have a grip on the HFA County Challenge Cup after overcoming Wellington on last night.

The Hereford side have won the trophy for the past four seasons and were deserved winners over a Wellington side whom they beat in last season's final.

Westfields were inspired by a great performance by Sam Gwynne.

The former Hereford player netted in the first half before setting up Tom Bendall to score Westfields' second goal and clinch the tie.

The scoreline could have been more though if it was not for the performance of Cris Manciu in the Wellington goal.

Manciu, who was sent off against Wolverhampton Casuals last month, made some fantastic stops, especially when denying Bendall and Craig Jones.

Westfields went into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw against Brocton in the Midland Football League Premier Division.

Jamie Cuss was sent off in the game for two yellow cards, the second of which was for an alleged 'dive'.

Brocton opened the scoring through Dave Ablewhite after eight minutes before Westfields equalised through a great volley from Bendall.

John Hopkins started in goal for Westfields, the fifth goalkeeper who has played for Sean Edwards' side this season.

Wellington's scheduled league game at Smethwick Rangers was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Kington Town are also in the hat for the semi-final after shocking higher-graded Pegasus Juniors 4-2 at Mill Street.

Sam Pearson put Pegasus ahead after 32 minutes before Liam Jones equalised three minutes before half-time.

Nick Layton then put Kington ahead after 71 minutes before Tom Parry made it 3-1 four minutes later.

Jordan Cooper sealed the line after 81 minutes before Pegasus, who had Callum Craddock sent off, scored a consolation through Charlie Hunter with five minutes to go.

Pegasus went into the game on the back of a 0-0 draw against Willenhall Town on Saturday.

The other two HFA County Challenge Cup quarter-final ties between Hereford and Bromyard Town and Leominster Town against Lads Club will be played next Tuesday.

The semi-final draw will then take place at HFA headquarters two days later.
