Brocton 3 Pegasus Juniors 2

PEGASUS made their exit from the FA Vase in an unusual match which had seen them go in front with just 20 seconds on the clock.

The city side then continued to hold their own against higher-graded opponents until Jack Lewis was sent off for what appeared to almost on the ground, bar the referee, to be a fair tackle inside the area.

From the kick-off, home defender Matt Hardiman, under pressure from Julio De Mata, misplaced a back pass which rolled inside a post.

Brocton hit back swiftly and Sam Bell shot past Nathan Phillips on five minutes after a one-two with Dave Berks.

Three minutes after the break, Lewis tackled Bell, who was heading away from goal and a penalty was awarded although the assistant referee, who was closer to the incident, did not indicate any offence.

Phillips ensured some measure of justice was done with a fine save from Dave Ablewhite's spot-kick.

Brocton gradually used their numerical superiority to get on top but, although, they had plenty of possession, there were few chances until the 69th minute when Gary Fife's 20-yarder beat the unsighted Phillips.

In the dying seconds, Brocton, who had appeared content to hold on to their narrow margin, scored a third goal when substitute Paul McMohan jinked past two defenders before scoring off a post.
