Lye Town 1 Pegasus Juniors 2

PEGASUS have a great chance to make further progress in the FA Vase after an excellent win at Midland Football League Premier Division Lye earned them a home tie with lower-graded Aston in the competition's first round proper.

Lye headed the West Midlands League Premier Division last season but Pegasus, who took four points from them on the way to finishing runners-up, continued their fine form over Town by gaining an excellent win with a superb team performance.

Lye enjoyed the better of possession in the first period but failed to seriously test Juniors keeper Nathan Phillips until four minutes before the break.

But then the young stopper pulled off a breathtaking save to keep out a goalbound header from Scott Gennard.

EIght minutes into the second period, Paul Allam, Danny Hill, Anthony Robbins and Tom Dawson were all involved in the build-up which saw Sam Pearson holding off Ben Jevons before shooting past Damien Stevens.

Eleven minutes later, Robbins' through ball set up Pearson to double his tally for the afternoon.

Lye kept up the pressure on the Pegasus defence and Reece Shivlock headed in a free-kick to set up an exciting finish.

But Juniors held on with Phillips making a couple of important saves to ensure their progression.

Juniors will now entertain Aston, who play in Division Two of the Midland League, on November 1.
