PEGASUS Juniors returned to winning ways last Saturday when they beat Ellesmere Rangers 2-0 at Old School Lane.

Two goals from Sam Pearson insured a victory in this West Midlands Premier Division clash and manager Chris Hyde was delighted with the result.

He said: “It was a great result and I’m over the moon today - I thought the performance was very good.

“It could have gone either way and we happened to score the goals and they didn’t it’s as simple as that.”

In an even first half clear cut chances were few and far between but Peggy did create the first chance of the game on 32 minutes when two goal hero Pearson hit the outside of the post from just outside the box.

Hyde said: “Sam came to us this season after being highly recommended by Sam Bowen and if Sam Bowen says he’s a good player that’s good enough for me.

“He’s a good lad but he’s not the finished article yet.”

The visitors however did create the first chance of the second half as striker Scott Ryan forced a save from Matt Phillips.

Three minutes later however, Pegasus took the lead when winger Ben Price put in a good low ball into Pearson’s feet and he finished well.

It was no less than the hosts deserved and they added a second on 74 minutes when Pearson got on the end of a Danny Hill flick on to secure the victory.

Manager Chris Hyde said the passing football which they played is something he always tried to instil in his team.

“We’ve always tried to encourage good passing football and this year we’ve had a bit of problem because we’ve lost personnel from last year, he said.

“We haven’t been settled all season and we’ve missed some big players.

“I don’t like playing any other way, it has to be done at times but it’s a spectator sport and if I paid to get in I would want to watch that type of football.”

Despite the win, Hyde is very keen that the side take every game as it comes.

He said: “When you’re working with our squad with their work commitments, you can only ever look one game ahead.

“We had five subs today and when we go to Ellesmere away in two weeks I guarantee you, we won’t have five subs that day.”

Last season the club finished second in league and were very close to winning the Division and Hyde believes the club can finish in the top four again this year.

“The plan this season was exactly the same as the plan last season and I don’t set targets and we’ll just try and win one game at a time, he said.

“Last year, without setting a target, I thought we could finish in the top four and we did finish in the top four.

“This year I think the league is weaker and we started slower and I still think we can finish in the top four.”

Pegasus travelled to Black County Rangers on Tuesday night ahead of an FA Vase away day at Lye Town this weekend.

Hyde said: “We will go out there and do the best we can, we’ll just try and win and see how we get on.”
