SUBSTITUTE Mark Davies scored the best goal of the game – with his weaker right-foot.

“I can’t remember scoring with my right foot,” admitted Davies.

“I usually score from headers.”

“It’s always nice to score from left-back and it’s nice to be playing.

“I remember having a touch and laying it to Chris Mortlock and then carrying on my run.

“I got to the edge of the box and hit it with my right foot.

“I just concentrated about hitting the target. I expect I will remember it.

“Any more goals like that and everyone will be just as surprised as me.”

Davies is battling his way back into the first-team after getting married.

“I couldn’t have picked a worse year to get married and miss a few games,” he joked.

“I have come back and it’s hard to get back in the first team – it’s a good squad.

“I have been playing centre-half the last few years and there’s a lot of competition.

“I would like to get back in the team and start playing first-team football again.

“I don’t usually set myself targets for goals.

Manager Chris Hyde is backing Davies to score more goals.

“Mark has always had that in his locker - he’s always been capable of doing that,” said Hyde.

“He stays behind in training and practices that. I was not surprised by his goal - he’s a talented boy.”
