Presteigne 1 Llanrhaeadr 0 PRESTEIGNE overcame both the opposition and the atrocious weather conditions to reach the last 16 in the FAW Welsh Trophy with a narrow win over Llanrhaeadr in the second round.
Considering the conditions - it rained throughout the 90 minutes - the game was entertaining and well contested. Steve Morgan and Mike Symonds both put early efforts wide of the target and, later in the half, Ben Beavan suffered the same fate with a header from a Neil Bennett cross.
The home side struck the crucial goal minutes into the second half when neat build-up play created the chance for Shaun Prince to curl the ball around the keeper.
Morgan and Symonds had shots saved by the Llanrhaeadr goalkeeper and Darren Jones also failed to beat him in a one-on-one situation but Presteigne's defence held firm to book their place in the fourth round.
Presteigne Reserves picked up three Watson Associates Mid-Wales South points with a comfortable 4-0 away win at Radnor Valley. Glyn Williams netted a hat-trick and Alan Stocker scored the other goal.
