Smethwick hit Leominster Town for six in West Midlands League Division 1

TWO goals either side of half-time broke any challenge the Briarwood Boys offered to a Smethwick side signalling their tilt at a West Midlands Regional League Division One title.

At 1-0, Leominster were in the game, even Smethwick’s second didn’t kill-off hope of a comeback. But the third, from a free-kick straight after the re-start, left Town with too much to do.

Facing a Smethwick keeper in inspired form, Town couldn’t make their approach play count. By the time Dan Stack pulled one back, Smethwick were running the game into the ground. While 6-1 was no reflection of Town’s attacking efforts, it came after a 5-1 hammering away to Wyrley in mid-week where Town couldn’t turn their good football into goals.

Co-bosses Mike Symonds and Nick Barnett need Town to find their feet against St Martin’s at home this Saturday.
