HEREFORD LADS Club Under-10 Girls have roared to an FA National Futsal title in Birmingham.
The team defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 on their way to clinching the title after an outstanding display in the nationals finals.
Proud parent Sharon Brown said: “The National Futsal title they hold means they are the best in the whole of the country, wiping off Tottenham Hotspur academy girls.
“We have a coach, Sarah Reed, who is only young, but gives up all her spare time to our team, along with Jamie Wright, overall in charge of Lads Club Girls’ Football.
“They are 100 per cent dedicated and get paid nothing. The parents loyally travel everywhere and support our girls.”
The Hereford team had progressed through the preliminary rounds after winning both the Herefordshire and West Midlands regional finals.
The Lads Club team finished as deserved group winners and then progressed through to the semi-finals where they shot down Swindon Spitfires 3-1.
In the final against St Anne’s from Blackpool, Lads Club took an early lead with a superb headed goal from tournament topscorer Georgia James.
Lads Club soon increased the lead with another goal from Georgia before Ciera Wheeler added a third.
St Anne’s threw everything at a determined Lads Club defence and eventually pulled a goal back.
Nerves started to creep into Lads Clubs’ play but encouragement from manager Reed led to a last burst of scintillating football which resulted in Georgia bagging her hattrick strike.
Lads Club football chief Jamie Wright highlighted the team’s successes this season: Herefordshire under-10 Girls League winners, Herefordshire under-10 League Cup winners, Herefordshire under-10 Futsal League winners, West Midlands under-10 regional Futsal winners, Gloucester City LFC under-10 six-a-side tournament winners, National Futsal Champions 2012.
