Match report - Leominster Town 1: Hanwood 6

HANWOOD 6 - LEOMINSTER TOWN 1.

LEOMINSTER Town put its future on show in the side’s final game of the season and - despite the scoreline - that future offered plenty of promise.

Town sent seven under 18s out against Hanwood and watched as the “the kids” put on a show last night (Wednesday). Club chairman Eddie Clark said 6-1 was a poor reflection of the game Town took to Hanwood.

“At times our football was outstanding – particularly from the youngsters given the circumstances,” said Clark.

“Our older players can take a great deal of credit for the way they watched out for the youngsters and kept our game going,” he said.

But Hanwood, chasing at least second place in the league, weren’t going give up their turf easily or otherwise. For all Town’s good work - work that Hanwood was sporting enough to recognise - the streetwise Shropshire side made its physicality count.

Town had hope of a result, though, when Dan Stack pulled a goal back to make it 3-1.

The Briarwood Boys should end their first season in West Midlands Regional League Division 1 with a top 10 finish, something Clark said the club can take a great deal of pride from.

“We’ve had some lows over the season, but they seemed to have bonded the side together. Whatever we go through we play the game our way, there’s a great spirit amongst the team and some really promising kids coming through – we can’t wait to get next season underway,” he said.
