Hereford Lads Club mark debut West Midlands League season with promotion

LADS Club look set to mark their debut season in the West Midlands League with promotion after completing their programme with an away win.

The city side have cemented their place in second position in Division 2 after two Ben Chambers strikes sparked their success at Ettingshall.

“We have been told that we will be promoted as long as we put up a stand behind the goal,” said delighted player-boss Danny Moon.

“The fact that we don’t have floodlights is not a problem.”

Lads Club took the lead at Ettingshall when Chambers fired a shot across the home goalkeeper and into the corner of the net.

And, after good work by Moon and Steve Dickson, he doubled the advantage in the second period.

The hosts pulled a goal back with a 25-yard lob but Lads Club were not finished and rounded off their win nine minutes from the end.

Bobby Terrett was the provider for Calum Wildig who rifled the ball home.

“It would have been nice to have won the league but it’s great to be promoted,” said Moon, whose side will finish 17 points behind champions Haughmond.

The Shropshire side went through their 26-match programme undefeated.

Moon will now look to keep his side together and is optimistic ahead of their shot at Division 1.

“We have a lot of young players in the squad, including three 17-year-olds, so there is a lot of promise there,” he said.
