EWYAS Harold ensured that their Herefordshire League Premier Division title bid is firmly in their own hands after a comprehensive success over their nearest rivals.

The villagers now lead the league by three points with four games to play but defeat at the Recreation Ground has all but ended Mercia’s title hopes as they have just one match still outstanding.

The home side took the lead on the hour when Matt Norton’s pass set up Pete Wood for a top-quality finish.

After the break, Harold extended their lead when John Roche scored direct from a corner.

In the closing stages, Wood produced another excellent strike for his second goal of the day before Tom Herbert held off a couple of challenges to score in the bottom corner.
