HEREFORD are still without a home win this season after Shots substitute Wade Small smashed in an equaliser five minutes from time.

Hereford, who had fought back to take the lead through Richard Rose and Joe Colbeck after Jermaine McGlashan had shot the visitors ahead, had had to endure some major disruption.

They had lost centre-back Tony James and his replacement Janos Kovacs with injury, leading to several different pairings trying their luck at the heart of the defence. Bulls boss Jamie Pitman was able to name an unchanged side for the visit of their old Conference rivals.

The team, therefore, included James, who was playing the final game of his month’s loan before returning to Burton Albion.

With former Bull Darren Jones and striker Marvin Morgan suspended, another ex-Hereford loanee Marlon Jackson was named to lead the Shots attack.

Hereford forced the first corner when keeper Jamie Young made a mess of a Richard Rose cross and had to tip the ball behind.

The visiting defence managed to get the ball away without too much difficulty from James McQuilkin’s cross.

Mathieu Manset, as usual a handful for the opposing defence, used his strength to get clear on the left.

But his driven cross carried too much pace for Joe Colbeck to deflect home.

McQuilkin then blazed high over from 30 yards as Hereford continued to have the better of the early play.

The Shots did, though, produce a neat free-kick move which ended with Jermaine McGlashan smashing the ball over Adam Bartlett’s goal.

McGlashan went closer on 19 minutes when Ryan Valentine deflected his shot behind for a corner.

From the flag-kick, the Bulls got themselves in a mess and McGlashan rifled in Anthony Charles flick to give the visitors a lead against the run of play.

Hereford had a chance to level moments later when Colbeck’s cross was placed into the path of McQuilkin, only for the midfielder to scuff the effort wide.

Jackson, though, should have extended the Shots lead when he was sent clear by Glen Little.

Bartlett was equal to the striker’s effort and dived to parry the ball away.

On 25 minutes, Hereford were back on level terms.

McQuilkin’s corner from the left was met at the near post by Rose whose flicked header went into the far corner of the net.

Jackson might have restored the lead when he was just unable to get over a cross from Little after McQuilkin had been dispossessed on the right.

Hereford hit back quickly and Young did well to get down to hold a fierce Colbeck effort.

The keeper dived moments later to stop a long-range effort from Manset.

The big Frenchman then pounced on a net flick from Rob Purdie but lifted his shot over keeper Young and over the bar.

Hereford took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Manset perseverance with a Lunt pass worked the ball into the pat of Colbeck who drilled the ball into the corner of the net.

Hereford replaced Tony James with skipper Janos Kovacs at the interval.

While the reorganised defence was settling, United were a little fortunate to survive when Anthony Straker flashed a cross through the six-yard box.

Straker cracked a shot into Bartlett’s arms a few moments later.

Bartlett did well to fist away a cross from the dangerous McGlashan as the Shots went all out for an equaliser.

But Hereford had a chance themselves when a crisp move led to Ryan Green finding Manset only for the big striker to power a shot high over.

McGlashan, who was a clear danger to the Hereford defence, was within inches of scoring when he sped on to a Little pass and turned to smash a shot across goal and wide.

And Ben Harding lifted a shot over from a McGlashan cross when it looked easier to score.

But Manset missed a great chance when he was sent clear by Stuart Fleetwood but lifted the ball over.

Hereford were immediately forced into a reshuffle when Kovacs, who had hurt a shoulder in a clash with Jackson, was forced off.

Tyler Weir came on and moved to right-back with Green switching inside.

Hereford, who had been severely under the cosh, created an opening for Fleetwood, whose effort was deflected for a corner.

Then a jinking run by Fleetwood ended with a shot which was superbly turned away by Young for another corner.

Aldershot levelled four minutes from the end when Bartlett could only push out a shot from Gutteridge to the feet of Small who drove home from close range.
