Llanrhaeadr 4 Presteigne St Andrews 2 A HAT-trick from Alun Jones sent Presteigne crashing to defeat against a direct Llanrhaeadr side in the Spar Mid Wales League.
The early signs were good for Presteigne with both Ben Bevan and Steve Morgan testing home goalkeeper Paul Edwards.
Presteigne then deservedly took the lead in the 18th minute when Chris Goode created a chance for Darren Jones who lobbed in the opener.
The home side hit back to equalise through Jones’ header in the 32nd minute and the striker put Llanrhaeadr in front on the stroke of half time.
Presteigne made the early running in the second half and Edwards pulled off a decent save to deny Bevan.
Darren Jones and Adam Boots also went close to putting Presteigne back on level terms.
Darren Martin extended the home side’s lead with a low shot inside the near post in the 60th minute before Edwards made a brilliant save from Bevan.
Jones wrapped up the match in the 65th minute when he ran through to complete his treble and put the home side 4-1 ahead.
However, Presteigne had the final word through Darren Jones who netted from the penalty spot after a home defender had handled the ball.
