RAPID Moorfields have marked their first season in competitive football by picking up a second trophy.
The newly formed side, who won the Shelton Cup last month by beating Hay St Mary’s 3-0, have added the HFA Sunday Cup after a 3-2 success against Seven Allstars, who play in the Malvern League.
Rapid were on top in the first half but wasted a good chance to take the lead on 35 minutes when an Allstars defender handled on the line, conceding a penalty and receiving a red card for his trouble.
Mark Mortock, however, saw his spot-kick saved.
Rapid dominated from the start of the second period and finally scored three goals in the space of 10 minutes through Paul Monteath (2) and Rod Haslam to place a hand firmly on the trophy.
Although Allstars rallied bravely, Rapid held on for skipper and man-of-the-match Mike Marsden to lift the cup.
The Rapid Moorfields side is made up of mainly Westfields first-team and reserve players although there are also some from Pegasus, Bartestree and Burghill mixed in with a few who only play on Sundays. The side still have an outside chance of making it a treble by picking up the Jewson Herefordshire Sunday League Division 2 South trophy.
